An interest in pursuing teaching did not spark in me until my sophomore year of college. When choosing a college major, helping people and being a person that made a difference in my community was at the forefront of my decision, so I chose Nursing. After my first year of college, it was clear that this was not the profession for me. Once I came upon the Biology/Secondary Education track offered by Neumann University, I know this was what I was meant to do.
Becoming a mother has changed my entire world. When I first began studying to become a teacher, it felt as though I was preparing for a job. Now, it's clear that this is much more than a job. Being a teacher means being a provider. A provider of knowledge, order, resource, and compassion... some of the same characteristics of being a mom! Aside from being a mother, I also teach dance. This gives me the opportunity to prepare for being a teacher by learning how to be flexible, understanding that different students learn in different ways, advocate for the children, and build relationships with them.
After graduation, I hope to obtain a position as a Biology teacher and eventually earn a Master's Degree to teach Anatomy and Physiology. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities Neumann has offered me and I can't wait to make a positive impact in my students lives'.
